Cowan Whitfield

Cowan Whitfield is an international photographer who has been based in NYC since 2013, originally from Sydney, Australia. His distinctive high-contrast, documentary-style work has caught the eyes of fashion, entertainment and celebrity clients globally.

When he moved to NYC in the spring of 2013 after finishing his BA in visual communication, Cowan worked under celebrity photographer Mark Seliger in the West Village. This experience nurtured Cowan’s unique ability to work candidly with some of the biggest names in the world — whether on the road with Rita Ora, shooting for the Human Rights Foundation or on the red carpet at the Cannes Film festival, Cowan’s celebrity work captures contemporary icons with laid-back intimacy.

Cowan is currently working on his first official book, 1 am Tuesday, a raw illustration of the queer underground night life of Manhattan and Brooklyn. This series is exhibited in NYC across 3,500 billboards during June for Pride Month 2021.

Cowan’s last NYC show “Men I Love” was a group exhibition in the east village, his work was featured alongside legendary photographer Micheal Halsband, who documented Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and the Rolling Stones.

Over the last two years he has been spearheading philanthropic initiatives and developing an agency that focuses on producing content for NGOs around the world.
